NEW DELHI: Paying rich tributes to the Indian Army for their sacrifices, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda said that nobody can match the Indian Army’s eternal strength and valour and this gives us confidence that victory will always be ours.
Nadda was speaking at an event to mark the 23rd Kargil Vijay Diwas at the party office in Delhi on Tuesday.
“The Kargil war stretched over 60 days and 527 soldiers were martyred. More than 200000 soldiers fought the battle in adverse circumstances and secured victory over Pakistan in 1999,” Nadda said.
Talking about the strengths of the Indian Army, Nadda said that the army’s hardware as well as software, both are very strong, and combined with their eternal strength, gives confidence that they can defeat any army.

Shedding light on the politics of 1999, Nadda said that then US President Bill Clinton invited then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to come for talks but Vajpayee declined the invitation saying till every single inch has been taken back by our brave forces we won’t sit for any negotiation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi displayed the same degree of clarity. Nadda said that when Pakistan-backed terrorists attacked Uri and Pulwama, PM Modi said in clear words that they have committed a mistake and will need to pay a price for it. It resulted in a surgical strike and a Balakot air strike.
Talking about the significance of the political leadership, Nadda said that earlier our brave soldiers were asked to wait and watch but now they respond first and then report to Delhi.
Without taking names, Nadda said that the political leadership was scared to develop border areas with China as it might anger the Chinese but PM Modi is developing the border areas.

“At one-time defence minister was scared to make purchases for the army as his name would be dragged in some scam. Today, PM Modi has ensured 36 Rafales, 28 Apache, 15 Chinook, 145 Ultra Light Howitzer…are available with the forces,” he said.
From a time when the country had a shortage of bulletproof jackets, today we are exporting jackets, Nadda said.
Every year July 25 is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas to remember the sacrifice of the soldiers who fought and won the war with Pakistan.
Paying his tributes to the sacrifice of the forces, Nadda said that Indians feel safe and celebrate Diwali because they know brave forces are guarding the borders.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Holi and Diwali with the forces at the border to send a message about the sacrifice of our brave soldiers,” Nadda said.
Explaining the significance of decisive political leadership, Nadda said that the idea of a war memorial was conceptualised in 1960 and a committee was formed by the UPA in 2006 to look into the matter but nothing moved forward. “When PM Modi came in 2014, the project was approved in 2015 and ₹500 crores were released. In 2017 design was ready and the War Memorial was inaugurated in Delhi in 2019,” Nadda said.
Further, he said that one rank one pension scheme was pending for so long and was implemented after PM Modi took charge in Delhi.
