Kargil Vijay Diwas: An Evening To Our Gallant Heroes

SRINAGAR: Tunes of patriotic songs reverberated in the atmosphere, swelling one with pride, as the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) paid homage to our gallant heroes who laid their lives protecting us from the evil designs of our neighbour during the Kargil war.

The AWWA organised a special evening with the gallantry award winners, the next of kin of those who made the supreme sacrifice during the war and soldiers of the Indian Army was organised at Syed Auditorium Hall in Kargil on Monday.

The evening saw an enthralling rendition of patriotic songs by noted Assamese singer Joi Barua. The highlight of his performance was the ‘Kargil Song’, written in memory of the bravehearts. It was followed by mesmerising songs by Ameya Dabli, lead singer and founder of Ekam Satt Academy along with his team.

Suneeta Dwivedi, regional president, Army Wives Welfare Association, Northern Command felicitated the members of various expeditions including Bachendri Pal, Padma Bhushan, leader of Fit @ 50+ team; Sufiya Khan, who ran the ultra-marathon from Siachen Base Camp till Kargil War Memorial; Major Srishti Sharma and Squadron Leader Maneka Kumari, who led the Joint Services Bicycle Rally from National War Memorial to Kargil War Memorial; Joi Barua and Ameya Dabli.

Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, AVSM, GOC-in-C, Northern Command, felicitated the Gallantry Award winners of the Kargil War and the next of kins of the bravehearts.

The evening culminated with the ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas Bhoj’ (Bara Khana) for everyone who were present on the occasion.
