LUCKNOW: Maintaining pressure on the ruling government to remove Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishr Teni from his post so unbiased investigations can be carried out on his role in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, Congress party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra once again slammed BJP and said the minister should not be allowed to go scot free.

Gandhi’s statement comes a day after Uttar Pradesh Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the October 3 Lakhimpur Kheri farmer killing in its affidavit in the court said that it (the incident) was a “well planned” conspiracy and that the accused did not commit the “criminal act out of negligence and neglect, but deliberately with the intention of killing them as per a pre-planned plan”.

Targeting the government, she said that even the Supreme Court had expressed concern over carrying out a “fair and thorough investigation” into the incident and its displeasure over the “slow pace and manner in which the investigation was being carried out”

“The SIT admits the Lakhimpur farmer massacre was ‘a well-planned act’. Then why are the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) and the Home Minister (Amit Shah) protecting the Minister of State for Home?” she asked.

“The victims’ families and we, who are doing satyagraha, have been demanding since day one that the MoS for Home should be removed because the people present at the spot and the families of the victims had clearly stated that the violence was carried out with full conspiracy and the farmers were crushed. However, the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath openly demonstrated their anti-farmer mentality and also shared the stage with Ajay Mishra Teni and gave them protection,” she lashed out, adding that Mishr still holds his post and that no action has been taken against him despite him openly threatening the farmers from the stage.

Targeting the Prime Minister, the Congress leader said, “Modiji, farmers do not have to listen to your empty words. As the Prime Minister, it is your constitutional and moral responsibility towards to get them justice.”

“(You must) immediately initiate an inquiry into the role of MoS Home in the conspiracy of Lakhimpur farmer massacre and sack him immediately,” she demanded.

On October 3, four farmers and a journalist were mowed down by a speeding SUV Mahindra Thar owned by MoS Home Ajay Mishr Teni. Following the death of five people in Lakhimpur Kheri, an angry crowd had then attacked the SUV convoy and killed three people including Minister’s SUV driver Hariom Mishra.

The SIT has till date arrested 13 people in connection with the case including Ashish Mishr. They are currently lodged in Lakhimpur Kheri district jail.
