SRINAGAR: An intense gunfight broke out late Friday night between security forces and terrorists in the Chak Tapper Kreeri Pattan area of Baramulla district in North Kashmir.
According to officials, a coordinated search operation is underway in the region as security forces engage the terrorists.
“Encounter has started at Chak Tapper Kreeri Pattan area of Baramulla. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” read an update from Kashmir Zone Police.
The encounter comes on the heels of another encounter in Kishtwar, where four Army personnel suffered injuries. Out of four injured, Naib Subedar Vipan Kumar and Sepoy Arvind Singh succumbed to their injuries. The Army confirmed that a search operation is in place in the region.

Meanwhile, Indian Army GOC White Knight Corps and all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice of the Bravehearts; and offer deepest condolences to the families, the army said in a post.
This surge in encounters follows a pattern of escalating terrorist activity in the Union Territory ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Just days earlier, security forces neutralized two terrorists in an encounter near the Kathua-Udhampur border, while the Udhampur district also saw a fresh gunfight that same day.
