SRINAGAR: In a major success against the terrorists in the Kashmir valley, the security forces neutralized two terrorists including a Pakistani LeT commander Haider in an encounter at Cheyan Devsar area of Kulgam.
Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one AK-56 with four magazines, one pistol with a magazine, one UBGL, one pouch and ID Cards of LeT were recovered from the site of the encounter.
Inspector General Police of Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar on Sunday said that police along with security forces neutralized two terrorists including a Pakistani terrorist commander Haider in an encounter at Cheyan Devsar area of Kulgam.
Inspector General Police of Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar said that Haider was active in north Kashmir for the last two years and has shifted base to south Kashmir recently. He added that he was involved in civilian and police killings.
“Acting on specific information, regarding the presence of terrorists in Cheyan Devsar area of Kulgam, Police and Army (09 Rashtriya Rifles) launched a joint cordon and search operation in the said area,” Kumar said. “During the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was effectively retaliated leading to an encounter,” he added.
In the ensuing encounter, IGP said two terrorists of the terror outfit LeT including a Pakistani terrorist commander Haider were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of the encounter. The other killed terrorist has been identified as Shahbaz Shah of Kulgam.
The killed terrorist, he said, was part of groups involved in several terror crimes, civilian atrocities and various killings including recent killings of police personnel Mohammad Sultan and Fayaz Ahmad on November 10, 2021, at Gulshan Chowk Bandipora.
Haider was also involved in an attack on the Naka party near Nishat Park Bandipora in which SPO Zubair Ahmad was killed while four other security personnel got injured.
The other killed terrorist Shahbaz Shah, IGP said, was a hybrid terrorist and was involved in the killing of a civilian belonging to a minority community namely Satish Kumar Singh on April 13, 2022, in the Kakran area of Kulgam.
