In a major success, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on January 10 said that it had arrested one major logistics provider in connection with the terrorist-gangster nexus case.

An NIA official said that the agency arrested Chhotu Ram Bhaat, a resident of Haryana’s Sirsa, on January 9. The official said that Bhaat was the key logistics provider for the gangsters.

The official said that Bhaat was acting as a weapons supplier and was also providing hideouts to the gangsters of the Bambiha group.

The NIA had carried out searches at two locations in Sirsa on December 21 last year, including the house of Bhaat in Chautala village, to dismantle and disrupt the emerging nexus between terrorists, gangsters and weapon suppliers based in India and abroad.

The official further said that a few of the most desperate gang leaders and their associates, based in India and abroad, who are spearheading and carrying out such terror and criminal activities were identified and booked in two cases registered by the NIA in August last year.

This is part of the NIA’s crackdown on top gangsters and their weapons suppliers based in Haryana and Punjab in general.

The official said that the arrest is aimed at dismantling the illegal arms support infrastructure, apart from the hideouts of absconders from the Bambiha-led terror-criminal syndicate.

“They were taking advantage of the border location of their hideout with Punjab. Investigations will continue to dismantle such terror networks as well as their funding and support infrastructure,” the official said.

The official also added that the NIA probe is aimed at identifying critical elements of the support infrastructure of a “terror-criminal” syndicate and subsequently, taking decisive action against those involved.
