Two Soldiers Killed, 2 Injured In Poonch Fratricide Incident

SRINAGAR: Two soldiers of the Territorial Army were killed and two others were injured in an incident of fratricide in the Poonch district of Jammu on Friday, officials said.

They said that the incident took place at an Army unit of the Territorial Army in the Surankote area of the district.

Officials said that the firing took place in the early morning hours on Friday. They said that three to four army men of the Territorial Army Battalion were injured in the incident. However, one of them succumbed.

The incident took place when the soldiers were being deployed for ROP (road opening party) duties. The injured have been rushed to the hospital, they added.

A senior Army official confirmed the incident but said that details were awaited. The victims are from the Territorial Army, he added.

The deceased soldiers have been identified as Sepoy Ibrar Ahmed and Sepoy Makan Singh of the 165 Territorial Army while two others, Naik Khalil Ahmed and Naik Imtiaz Ahmed were injured. They said the injured were airlifted to an army hospital in Udhampur and the condition of one of them, Naik Imtiaz Ahmed, is stated to be very critical.
