The decision was made during the ongoing ABPS meeting in Nagpur, marking Hosabale’s continuation in the second-highest leadership position within the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
NEW DELHI: The Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS), the highest decision-making body of the Sangh Parivar, has re-elected Dattatreya Hosabale for the position of ‘Sarkaryavah’ (General Secretary) for a three-year term spanning from 2024 to 2027.
The decision was made during the ongoing ABPS meeting in Nagpur, marking Hosabale’s continuation in the second-highest leadership position within the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). In a post on X, RSS said, “The RSS Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) re-elected (2024-2027) Shri Dattatreya Hosabale ji for the post of Sarkaryavah. He has been discharging the responsibility of Sarkaryavah since 2021.”

Hosabale, who has been shouldering the responsibility of Sarkaryavah since 2021, succeeded Suresh ‘Bhaiyyaji’ Joshi, holding the post for three terms totalling nine years. The post of Sarkaryawah is considered the Sangh’s second in command after Sarsanghchalak (RSS chief), currently held by Mohan Bhagwat.
Born on December 1, in Shimoga, Karnataka, Hosabale joined the RSS in 1968 and later became a member of ABVP in 1972. His journey within the organisation saw him take on various roles, including becoming a Pracharak in 1978. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Youth Development Centre in Guwahati, Assam, and served as the founding editor of Aseema, a Kannada and English monthly publication.
Speaking about his re-election, Hosabale expressed gratitude for being considered worthy of the responsibility and pledged to uphold the traditions of the organisation. He noted the historical significance of his re-election, highlighting that it is the first time in RSS history that the election for Sarkaryavah was held outside Nagpur, a decision necessitated by the COVID situation.

The ABPS meeting, held at the Smriti Bhavan complex in Reshimbagh, Nagpur, commenced on Friday, attracting more than 1,500 representatives from various RSS-affiliated organizations. It is being held after six years. The event marks a significant moment for the Sangh Parivar, gathering key stakeholders to discuss and strategise on various matters concerning the organisation’s mission and vision.
He was actively involved in the JP movement from 1975 to 1977 and spent almost two years in jail under ‘MISA’ during that time. Hosabale’s journey within the RSS has been marked by dedicated service and active involvement in shaping the organisation’s agenda. He has demonstrated fluency in multiple languages, including Kannada, Hindi, Marathi, English, and Sanskrit, reflecting his commitment to effective communication and outreach.
