NEW DELHI: After Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar revoked Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha’s suspension on Monday, the latter brought forth his opposition to the Post Office Amendment Bill, 2023, and the issue of spyware notifications on Apple iPhones.

Expressing his concern over the violation of privacy, Chadha stressed the need for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) to delve into the matter. He highlighted the implications of the privacy breach for citizens, arguing that a “thorough investigation” was essential. “If the right to privacy of an MP is being violated in such brazen ways, what hope does a common citizen have?” he questioned.

He asked these questions on the pretext of the unsettling events of October 31, when Opposition leaders, including Chadha, had received notifications from Apple about potential state-sponsored  spyware attacks.

The notifications had warned of the possibility of remote access to sensitive data, communications and even the camera and microphone of the affected devices.

The AAP MP had been suspended from his office on August 11. Reacting to the suspension Raghav Chadha said,  “On 11th August, I was suspended from the Rajya Sabha. I went to the Supreme Court for revocation of my suspension. Supreme Court took cognisance of this and now my suspension has been revoked after 115 days. I thank the Supreme Court and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.”
