Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma, has penned a letter to the Public Works Department (PWD) of the Delhi Government.
NEW DELHI: In a bold move ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, BJP leader and candidate for the New Delhi constituency, Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma, has penned a letter to the Public Works Department (PWD) of the Delhi Government, demanding that the much-discussed “Sheesh Mahal” be opened for public viewing. Verma accuses the structure of being a “symbol of corruption” built with taxpayer funds.
Verma took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his concerns, stating, “‘Sheesh Mahal’ was built with public money, but only a select few are allowed to see it. Shouldn’t the common people also get a chance to witness the magnificence of this palace?”

The residence, located at 6, Flagstaff Road, was the official home of the Delhi Chief Minister until recently. Through his letter, Verma argues that since the building was constructed using public funds, the public should have the right to see it, emphasizing the need for transparency in governance. He wrote, “Since this building comes under the PWD, I appeal to you to allow public access to it. As a former Member of Parliament and BJP’s candidate from New Delhi, I believe this step will enhance public trust in transparency and democracy.”
The demand for public access follows a critical CAG report which found significant irregularities in the construction of “Sheesh Mahal.” The report pointed out an increase in costs by over 342% of the initial estimate, alongside allegations of bypassing tender processes and lavish spending on non-essential luxury items.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding Verma’s request.

This move by Verma is seen as an attempt to leverage the controversy surrounding “Sheesh Mahal” in the upcoming elections, highlighting issues of governance and fiscal responsibility.
