JAMMU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Jammu Railway Division on Monday, hailing it as a transformative milestone for Jammu and Kashmir’s connectivity and infrastructure development.

During the event, PM Modi congratulated the people of Jammu and Kashmir, describing the integration of the region into India’s national railway network as a pivotal step in modernizing Indian Railways. “This marks a major leap towards making Indian Railways a global leader in speed, efficiency, and passenger experience,” he stated.

He highlighted the achievements of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) project, including India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge over Anji Khad and the world’s highest rail bridge over the Chenab River, both marvels of engineering.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the new division will benefit not only Jammu and Kashmir but also neighbouring regions like Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Ladakh.

He called the project a testament to the government’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” and a significant step toward a “Vikshit Bharat” (Developed India).

Modi reflected on the transformation of Indian Railways over the past decade, noting the addition of over 30,000 kilometres of new tracks, near-total electrification compared to 35% in 2014, and the elimination of manual crossings on broad-gauge lines. “This is a new era for connectivity and national unity,” he said.

He underlined the economic benefits of railway modernization, highlighting its role in boosting trade, business, and employment. He noted that lakhs of jobs have been created in the railways over the past decade, with institutions like Gati Shakti University enhancing skills for future opportunities.

PM Modi also pointed out the rapid expansion of modern train services, with over 50 Vande Bharat trains operational and a growing metro network spanning 21 cities and over 1,000 kilometres of tracks. “The day isn’t far when bullet trains will crisscross India,” he added.

In his address, the Prime Minister emphasized the role of the “Made in India” initiative in transforming railway stations, developing high-speed corridors, and boosting indigenous production. “Indian Railways is not just about transport; it is the backbone of a self-reliant India and a beacon of hope for millions,” he concluded.
