NEW DELHI: From touring the country as a backpacker in 1991 to leading a parliamentary delegation in 2018, Australia’s Prime Minister-elect Anthony Albanese is no stranger to India.
Albanese led the Labor Party to its first electoral victory in nearly a decade beating incumbent Scott Morrison in a closely contested electoral battle.
According to Australian high commissioner Barry O’Farrell, Albanese has come to India multiple times in different capacities.

“Australian electors, including our vibrant Indian #diaspora, have freely and enthusiastically participated in #AustraliaVotes. Our shared commitment to #democracy is the foundation of our strong partnership,” he had earlier stated in a separate tweet.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Anthony Albanese on his electoral success.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is slated to call on Prime Minister Modi in Tokyo on May 24. In addition to the Quad leaders’ summit, the pair will have one to one bilateral talks in Japan.
