Police resorted to lathi-charge on junior engineer aspirants when they stage a demonstration outside the Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) office in Patna on Monday.

They also held a demonstration outside the offices of the ruling Janata Dal (United) and Rashtriya Janata Dal as well as the opposition BJP, demanding the release of the final list of meritorious aspirants for the post of junior engineer in the Bihar government.

“Result do ya icchha mrityu do (Release the results or give us euthanasia),” they chanted during the protest held amid heavy police deployment.

Speaking to media persons, an aspirant said that the result is stuck for the last four years.

“The examination was held and its result was published in 2019. But the result was withdrawn later saying that it has to be amended. It has directly affected the lives of the candidates waiting for the government job for the last four years,” he said.

Another aspirant said, “The government of Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav has turned into a lathi-charge government. They have conned the people of Bihar. They promised 10 lakhs jobs but today people are being lathi-charged for demanding jobs. It is shameful.”

In December last year, the state police lathi-charged aspirants, who qualified for the state teachers eligibility test (TET) and Central teachers’ eligibility test (CTET), when they were holding a demonstration demanding jobs in the capital Patna.

During the protest, the qualified teacher aspirants demanded the release of official notification for their appointment.

In the first week of this month, aspirants of the Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) staging a protest in the state capital over a paper leak were beaten up by the Bihar Police. They were protesting the cancellation of the first sitting of the BSSC third graduate level joint preliminary test over reports of question paper leaks on social media.
