JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday convened a high-level security meeting with senior officials from the Army, paramilitary forces, Intelligence agencies, and police to formulate a strategy to combat the escalating terrorism in the Jammu region. The LG also held a private discussion with the Army Chief.

In addition to the Army Chief, the meeting chaired by the LG included DG BSF Nitin Agarwal, CRPF DG Anish Dayal Singh, Director Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, RAW Chief Ravi Sinha, DGP RR Swain, and senior Army Commanders of the Northern and Western Commands.

LG Sinha urged all security agencies to engage in coordinated counter-terrorism operations in the Jammu division actively. “We must execute meticulous and well-coordinated counter-terrorism efforts with enhanced collaboration between all agencies to eradicate terrorists and their supporters,” the Lieutenant Governor stated. He also emphasized that the Security Grid should be reinforced to ensure no cross-border infiltration.

Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff led a high-level security review at the Police Headquarters, attended by national leaders of paramilitary forces, Intelligence Bureau (IB), and RAW, along with DG JKP, to discuss the prevailing situation in the Jammu region following a surge in terror attacks.

The detailed session focused on closing off infiltration routes used by terrorists to enter the Jammu region from Kathua and Punjab and subsequently move to the mountainous areas of Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, and other parts of the region. Another key focus was developing a comprehensive strategy to eliminate approximately 50 foreign terrorists operating in groups of three in different parts of the Jammu region.

The brainstorming session lasted nearly two hours and included all stakeholders of the security setup, along with officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of Defence (MoD), to discuss the situation and actionable anti-terror measures.

Concerns were raised over security gaps at the borders leading to terrorist infiltration. Maximizing surveillance at the International Border and the Line of Control was emphasised. The necessity of effective operations in the hilly areas, where foreign terrorists are reportedly hiding and targeting security forces, was also stressed.

Officials believe that halting fresh infiltrations would significantly contain the terror threat, as the existing terrorists in the hinterland would eventually be neutralized. “Simultaneously, a comprehensive strategy has been developed to target and eliminate terrorists hiding in jungles or other locations before they can carry out new attacks,” the officials stated.
