JeM Commander Among 4 Terrorists Killed In 3 Encounters In Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Four terrorists were killed while one was apprehended in three separate anti-terror operations that broke out on Friday evening in Kashmir valley, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone) Vijay Kumar said.

A civilian was injured in one of the operations, he said.

The encounters between security forces and terrorists were in progress at three places — in Pulwama district of southern Kashmir, Ganderbal district of central Kashmir and Handwara Tehsil of Kupwara in northern Kashmir, the officer said on Saturday morning.

Speaking to The New Indian, IGP Vijay Kumar said that the slain include two terrorists from Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) and one each from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). One terrorist was also captured alive in Pulwama district.

“All the encounters are in progress while one more encounter is likely to take place,” the IGP said.

In Cheweakalan village of Pulwama, two Jaish terrorists including a Pakistani national were killed and another terrorist was apprehend while as a civilian was injured. “The Pakistani terrorist killed in Pulwama encounter has been identified as JeM commander Kamaal Bhai alias Jatt,” the IGP said.

Jatt was active in Pulwama and Shopian since 2018 and was involved in several cases, he added.

The police officer said that one person, Zahoor Ahamd Shergojri of Chewakalan, Pulwama received bullet injury in his right thigh and was admitted to the district hospital in Pulwama. Hospital authorities said his condition is stable.

A local terrorist was killed in another gunfight in Rajwar area of Handwara, Kupwara. In Ganderbal, another terrorist was killed and his identity was being ascertained.
