NEW DELHI: India secured a convincing seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second Test of the IDFC First Bank series, held at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. With this win, India sealed the two-match series 2-0, extending their dominance in home Test matches.

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first, starting steadily but finishing the day at 107/3 in 35 overs. Mominul Haque stood out for the visitors, scoring a resilient century to keep his team in contention. Unfortunately, rain washed out play on Days 2 and 3, casting doubts over whether a result could be achieved in the limited time remaining.

On Day 4, Bangladesh resumed their innings but could only manage 233 runs, with Mominul Haque scoring 107. India’s Jasprit Bumrah led the attack, taking 3 wickets for 50 runs. India responded with an aggressive batting performance. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma provided a blistering start, setting a record for the fastest team fifty in Test cricket, achieved in just three overs. India declared their first innings at 285/9, building a lead of 52 runs.

Bangladesh faltered in their second innings, managing only 146 runs as Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja tore through their batting lineup. India was left with a modest target of 95 runs, which they chased down comfortably, finishing at 98/3 to secure a seven-wicket win.

Mominul Haque’s century was a highlight for Bangladesh, while Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling and the aggressive batting of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma defined India’s performance. Ashwin and Jadeja played pivotal roles in dismantling Bangladesh’s batting order, particularly in the second innings.

Their declaration at 285/9 in just 34.4 overs demonstrated their intent to push for a result, even in a rain-affected match.
