SRINAGAR: BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav on Wednesday alleged that the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are relying on former terrorists to bolster their chances in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. He accused the two parties of trying to drag the Union Territory back to its “chaotic past.”
Madhav, who oversees BJP’s efforts in Jammu and Kashmir, specifically targeted the Abdullah and Mufti families, arguing that their political dominance must end.
“There is credible evidence that former terrorists and separatists are openly campaigning for NC and PDP candidates. The people of Jammu and Kashmir must reject parties aiming to return the region to its troubled days and instead support new leadership committed to peace and progress,” Madhav declared.
These remarks were made while Madhav accompanied BJP candidate Aijaz Hussain during the filing of his nomination papers for the Lal Chowk Assembly Constituency.
Madhav also criticized the election manifestos of the NC and PDP, which advocate for the restoration of Article 370, statehood, resolution of the Kashmir conflict, and dialogue with Pakistan. He argued that such promises would only lead to a return of the unrest that once plagued the region.

“I urge the people of Jammu and Kashmir to recognize that the manifestos put forth by NC, PDP, and others would take the region back to its old, troubled days,” Madhav stated. He expressed confidence that new political leaders would emerge in the Kashmir Valley, while in the Jammu region, the BJP would represent peace and development.
Madhav predicted that a BJP-led government would be formed in Jammu and Kashmir. When asked about the participation of young candidates in the election, he noted that this reflects the people’s desire for fresh leadership.
“A significant number of young individuals are stepping forward, and they deserve support. This state has been controlled by two families for too long; it’s time for a change,” he said, referring to the families of NC president Farooq Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti.
When asked about potential alliances if no single party secures a majority, Madhav emphasized that the BJP aims to be the largest party but will consider coalition options if necessary.

He also welcomed the involvement of former Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) members in the election, emphasizing the inclusivity of democracy. However, he warned against candidates relying on support from militants or former militants.
Madhav assured that the elections would be peaceful and transparent, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to free and fair polls, as demonstrated in the recent parliamentary elections.
He concluded by announcing that the Union Home Minister would hold an election rally in the Jammu region on September 6, with the Prime Minister and other senior leaders also expected to visit.
