Abhay Narayan Mallik, one of the most loved and accomplished pillars of Dhrupad gayaki of Darbhanga Gharana passed away on Tuesday at the age of 86.

Pandit Ji breathed his last at his residence in Greater Noida on Tuesday. A world renowned singer of Dhrupad Dhamar, the oldest style of Indian classical music, Pandit ji was 86 years old. He was born in in Mallik family, famous for Dhrupad singing, in Darbhanga, Bihar. He sang Gauharvani style of Senia parampara.
Pandit ji gave many performances at home and abroad and won people’s hearts. He was honored by the Government of Bihar, Government of Madhya Pradesh and Government of UP for his remarkable contribution to music.
The Government of Bihar honored him with the “Bihari Ho To Aisa” Award for his remarkable contribution to music. Pt Abhay Narayan Mallik was distinguished in the world of classical music for his versatile singing. He made many disciples under the tradition of Guru Shishya. 300 years of tradition and legacy of the Darbhanga Malik family is behind him. There is a wave of grief in the music industry due to his demise.
