NEW DELHI: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Delhi Police has busted an international drug trafficking syndicate running from the Golden Crescent (Death Crescent) Region in Afghanistan.
Police also arrested four persons – 51-year-old Parvej Alam alias Javed alias Doctor, 32-year-old Shami Kumar @ Shami, Rajat Gupta and 30-year-old Afghan national Naseem Barkazy. Police also seized 21.4 kg of superfine quality heroin worth ₹130 crores in the international market.
Operations were conducted under the supervision of ACPs Arshdeep, Sunil Kumar and Anil Sharma by Inspectors Harivansh, Jai Bhagwan, Davender, Rakesh Duhan, Jasbir and their respective teams.
Acting on specific information, a trap was laid and Barkazy was apprehended in the Karkardooma area of Delhi. Police also recovered 3 kg of fine quality heroin.
“Barkazy had married one Indian lady and had come on the pretext of the illness of his wife. He is the main source of receiving the liquid opium from Afghanistan and further hand over the same to Parvez Alam,” the police said.
“Upon interrogation, Barkazy disclosed that he is part of an International Drug Trafficking Syndicate and operates at the behest of his associates based in Afghanistan,” the police said.
“He further disclosed that his associate namely Parvej Alam helps him in manufacturing and mixing of heroin and at present, a large amount of heroin is lying with him,” they said.
A team was dispatched to the hideout of Alam in Bhajanpura. During the house search, a total quantity of 7.4 kg of contraband heroin and ₹1.25 lakh cash were recovered from his possession.
Police said that Alam had studied up to class 12 from Anglo Arbi School, Delhi. He is proficient in Hindi, English and Urdu languages. He is one of the main components of a drug syndicate, as he processes the liquid opium and converts the same into powder form and further distributes the same.
Police said that Alam has been engaged in drug trafficking since 2014. He was arrested under NDPS Act earlier too. And it was during his time in jail that he came in touch with some Afghan nationals and started working with them.
Further investigation led to the recovery of drug sale proceeds to the tune of ₹4.53 lakhs were recovered from a house in Vishwas Nagar, Shahdara, Delhi.
During the sustained interrogation of Alam and Barkazy, Police came to know about their pan-India nexus with deep roots in Punjab.
One of the associates of Alam and Barkazy, Shami Kumar, was later arrested during a raid conducted in Mahavir Nagar, Dabri in Delhi. During the search, a total of 11 kgs of heroin and precursor (mixing chemicals) and cash of ₹22 lakh were recovered.
The 32-year-old school dropout who hails from Amritsar and worked as a Tour and Travel Agent, further disclosed that he is acting on the behest of one Pankaj and all the finances are being managed by one Rajat Gupta.
After extensive raids, Gupta was apprehended and six mobile phones and many incriminating documents and articles related to the finance of the illegal trade being conducted by Pankaj have been recovered.
Interrogation of the accused revealed that they all are members of an international drug trafficking syndicate and the major source of supply is from Afghanistan, where opium is cultivated in abundance.
Opium, in liquid form, is trafficked through various routes (air and sea routes) and received by Afghan nationals. The same is processed and converted by Alam at his home. After processing the same, the fine quality heroin is distributed in Punjab, Delhi and other states through their couriers and distributors spread across the nation.
