Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has urged the Health and Family Welfare Department to ensure full preparedness for any potential health crisis.
NEW DELHI: Following the detection of two cases of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Karnataka, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has instructed the Health and Family Welfare (HFW) Department to ensure full preparedness in the capital to tackle any potential health crisis.
The first case in Karnataka was reported in an eight-month-old baby girl in Bengaluru, with the state’s health department confirming the infection. Notably, the infant had no travel history. A second case was also detected in Bengaluru, involving a three-month-old baby girl.

In light of these developments, Bharadwaj emphasized that all hospitals in Delhi must be fully equipped to manage any potential surge in respiratory illnesses. He urged the department to work in close coordination with the Union Health Ministry to receive timely updates and guidelines.
“There should be no delay in action. Any issues requiring directives must be brought to my attention immediately over the phone,” Bharadwaj stated.
The minister has also directed the Health Secretary to conduct daily inspections of three hospitals and provide reports on essential aspects, including:

Availability of medicines as per the Essential Drugs List (EDL).
ICU bed readiness and equipment functionality.
Condition of PSA oxygen plants.
Status of data entry operators for seamless reporting.
The Delhi government is taking proactive measures to prevent any health emergency, with Bharadwaj reiterating the need for swift action and strict monitoring.
