NEW DELHI: The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on February 5 in a single phase across all 70 Assembly constituencies. Additionally, bye-elections in specified constituencies in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will follow the same schedule.
The Election Commission of India announced the schedule today, January 7, during a press conference.
The last date to file nominations is January 17, and the scrutiny of nominations will be done by January 18. Candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations until January 20.
“It is a single-phase election… We have deliberately kept polling on a Wednesday so more people come out to vote, as we did in Maharashtra,” Kumar said at the press conference.

The term of the 70-member Assembly ends on February 23. Delhi has traditionally seen Assembly polls in a single phase.
The ECI also declared the schedule for bye-elections to two Assembly constituencies (ACs) – 273-Milkipur in Uttar Pradesh and 98-Erode (East) in Tamil Nadu.

With the announcement of the schedule for the Delhi Assembly Election, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force in the city and will remain in force till the completion of the election process.
This announcement marks the final press conference by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, who will be stepping down from his role. During the press conference, the CEC emphasized the importance of ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election process.
While concluding his address, CEC Kumar urged every eligible voter: ‘It’s a festival that I am sure Delhi will celebrate with full spirit. I request that the campaign would be clutter-free. Let Delhi vote with full participation.’
The Delhi Assembly elections will witness a three-cornered fight between the BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party. The AAP will be aiming to win the polls for a third consecutive term. Congress will be keen to regain the National Capital.
The BJP has announced candidates for 29 seats so far, while Congress, which is contesting without AAP in collaboration, has announced candidates for 48 seats so far.
