NEW DELHI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has formally extended the deadlines for commenting on its recently released Consultation Paper regarding the “Terms and Conditions for the Assignment of Spectrum for Certain Satellite-Based Commercial Communication Services” in an effort to encourage wider stakeholder engagement. Since its first release on September 27, 2024, this Consultation Paper has generated a great deal of attention from a variety of stakeholders in the satellite and telecommunications industries.
Initially, written comments were due on October 18, 2024, and counter-comments were due on October 25, 2024. However, in response to requests from some stakeholders who desired additional time to prepare their responses, TRAI has decided to amend these schedules. The extension demonstrates TRAI’s dedication to an inclusive consultation process by giving all interested parties—including service providers, industry experts, and other stakeholders—enough time to offer their opinions and insights on the important issues brought up in the Consultation Paper. Essential aspects pertaining to spectrum assignment for satellite-based commercial communication services are covered in this publication. This industry is crucial to increasing the reach of telecommunications, particularly in underserved and distant locations.
It is anticipated that extending the comment time will encourage a more thorough discussion of the laws governing satellite communications, leading to well-informed decisions that will ultimately benefit India’s whole telecom sector. In order to create a strong policy environment that fosters innovation and service delivery in satellite communication services, TRAI’s efforts to interact with stakeholders are essential as the sector develops.
