As Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 72 on Saturday, a host of events are being organised across the country to celebrate his birthday with fanfare. The PM was born in 1950 in Mehsana district of Gujarat.
The Bhartiya Janata Party’s Tamil Nadu unit is giving gold rings to all children born on the PM’s birthday at a hospital in Chennai. The Vanzara Samaj in Gujarat will light 72,000 earthen lamps in the shape of Modi’s face. The party is organising “unity in diversity” festivals, blood donation, tree-planting and cleanliness drives in different parts of India from September 17 to October 2.
Modi became the prime minister in 2014 after leading BJP to a spectacular win in the general elections. Since then, he has remained the most popular and powerful politician in the country by heralding a slew of welfare schemes and changing the social landscape of the country. After thumpingly winning the second term in 2019, he abolished Article 370 and paved the way for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya by expediting the judicial process.
A host of sportspersons have taken to Twitter to extend their wishes to the PM on his birthday.
“Happy Birthday to our Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modiji! Wishing you the best of health & happiness,” tweeted batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar.
