Congress leader Ajay Rai has alleged that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minsiter Yogi Adityanath had a role to play in Rahul Gandhi’s plane being denied permission to land at Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport on Monday night. The Varanasi airport authorities, however, refuted the allegations and claimed that Gandhi himself had cancelled his flight through the flight operator.

“Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to arrive here and then go to Prayagraj, but the airport authority did not allow his plane to land here due to pressure from the government. They said there is a traffic jam here and deliberately did not give permission,” alleged Congress leader Ajay Rai. This shows that the BJP is scared of Gandhi’s growing popularity, said Rai.

The airport authorities issued a public statement on their Twitter handle refuting the allegation. The Airport authorities said that the flight was cancelled by the operator. “The flight was cancelled by M/s AR Airways by sending email to AAI Varanasi Airport at 2116 hrs on 13 th Feb 2013. Please correct your statement as the flight was cancelled by operator. Please date of email as 13.02.2023.”

Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to reach Prayagraj on Monday night. He was scheduled to offer prayers in Kashi Vishwanath temple. After this, he had to attend the meeting of Kamla Nehru Trust on Tuesday morning. President Droupadi Murmu on Monday was on a visit to Varanasi where she offered prayers at Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Kotwal Baba Kaal Bhairav temple. During her visit to Kashi for the first time, the President also attended the grand Ganga Aarti at the Dashashwamedh Ghat.
