Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed several crucial issues like the conduct of the census, GST compensation and coal royalty.
Speaking to the media after their meeting, Baghel said, “I have urged the prime minister to conduct the census as soon as possible.”
The Congress leader further said that there is an issue in the selection of beneficiaries of government schemes due to a lack of census after 2011.
“Many eligible beneficiaries are being deprived of the benefits of the schemes. A letter was also written to the prime minister earlier in this regard,” he said.
During the meeting, CM Baghel also presented a symbol of the Chhattisgarh state animal, ‘The Indian Wild Buffalo’ to PM Modi.
The two leaders also discussed the action plan for the fourth permanent finance working group meeting of G-20 to be held in Chhattisgarh in September this year.
“A discussion was held with PM Modi regarding its preparation and guidance has also been received from the Prime Minister regarding the meeting,” he said.
CM Baghel said, “I have assured the prime minister of providing world-class arrangements for the guests of G-20.”
According to Baghel, Chhattisgarh will get an opportunity to showcase the art and culture of the state in front of dignitaries across the world by hosting the G-20.
While appreciating the ongoing Millet Mission, the chief minister also informed the PM about starting of Millet Cafe in Raipur and other cities of Chhattisgarh following the suggestion given by him in the last meeting.
During the meeting, PM Modi and CM Baghel also discussed the provisions of the budget presented in Chhattisgarh recently, in which light metro service from Nava Raipur to Durg, construction of Aerocity in Raipur.
Baghel said that the recovery of additional levy from the coal blocks cancelled by the Supreme Court in 2014 has been received by the Central government.
“The Central government has been requested several times to transfer the amount of ₹4,170 crores recovered from the coal blocks of Chhattisgarh to the state, but the amount is yet to be received. I have requested PM Modi to transfer the amount to the state at the earliest,” he said.
Baghel also told PM Modi that like other producing states, Chhattisgarh is also facing a shortfall in commercial tax revenue after GST implementation.
“An amount of ₹1,375 crores is yet to be paid to Chhattisgarh from the date of implementation till June 30, 2022. This amount should be given to the state soon,” he added.
