As told by Shahnaz Husain to The New Indian

With only a few hours left until Rangotsav begins, people across the country are preparing to celebrate with full enthusiasm. Friends will chase each other with packets of gulal.

While it’s important to protect your skin and hair during this festival, it’s equally crucial to elevate your style game. As you prepare to celebrate this colourful festival, consider enhancing your style with Holi-inspired fashion and makeup looks that embody the spirit of joy and celebration.

You can boost your fashion by opting for vibrant colours. On Holi, choose makeup that enhances your glow rather than diminishing it. You can stay fashionable by accessorizing beautifully!

From Bold Floral Prints to Elegant Ethnic Wear:

Kurta and Lehenga: There’s no need to stick to T-shirts and pyjamas. Opt for colourful kurtas and lehengas. Create an OOTD style by selecting contrasting colours like pink, yellow, grey, and orange. These vibrant hues mirror the colours of Holi and add a festive touch to your outfit. Pair them with contrasting bottoms or dupattas for a bold and striking look.

Playful Accessories: To add colour to Holi, consider wearing boho and fun accessories. Regardless of the dress you’re wearing or planning to wear, you can pair it with matching kadas and bangles. Complete the look with light statement earrings and a simple bracelet. Remember not to wear heavy accessories or overload yourself with jewellery as it could hinder your Holi celebrations and potentially cause injuries while applying colours.

Elegant Ethnic Wear: Nothing beats ethnic wear. You can opt for salwar kameez, anarkali, and kurta sets. Boys should consider kurta-pyjama over T-shirts and shorts. The trend of pairing jeans with pyjamas for a fusion look has become popular. Choose light fabrics like chiffon or cotton that dry quickly after getting wet. If you want to add an extra dose of glamour, opt for light embroidery or sequin work.

Floral Prints: Florals never go out of style. Floral prints are especially appealing in summer. Choose dresses, skirts, or tops adorned with floral motifs in cheerful colours. Floral prints not only exude a sense of freshness and vitality but also complement the colourful ambience of Holi celebrations.

Vibrant Holi Makeup Playing Holi doesn’t mean you can’t get ready for the day. It’s important to prepare specially for the festival. Complete your look with vibrant and playful makeup tricks.

Light Makeup: Avoid wearing heavy makeup on Holi. If you want glowing skin, apply a light foundation after moisturizing and applying sunscreen. You can also use a tinted moisturizer to match your skin tone. Add a touch of liquid highlighter to the high points of your face for a radiant glow that catches the light and enhances your natural beauty. Keep in mind that colours can ruin makeup, so don’t spend too much time on it.

Bold Eyeshadow: Keep your eyeshadow bold. Since you can’t wear heavy makeup, you can experiment with your eyeshadow. Create a radiant look using dark and bold-coloured eyeshadow. You can also achieve a bold statement eye look by blending 2-3 colours. If you don’t want to do eye makeup, a thin and colourful eyeliner can be a good option. Make a statement with colourful eyeliner in shades like electric blue, green, pink, or sunny yellow. Create playful winged eyeliner looks or add pops of colour to your lower lash line for a fun and unexpected twist.”

Bold Lips: Achieve bold lips with a simple red lipstick. If you’re wearing a brightly coloured dress, keep the lips subtle and complete the look with nude lips. Opt for shades like hot pink, coral, or tangerine to add a pop of colour to your makeup look, complementing the festive atmosphere. Matte or long-wearing formulas are ideal for long-lasting colour that withstands the festivities.

Styling and Safety Tips for Holi Here are some additional styling tips to help you look and feel your best during Holi celebrations:

Protective Clothing: While Holi is all about fun and frolic, it’s essential to protect your skin and clothes from the colours and water used during celebrations. Consider wearing inexpensive clothing that you don’t mind getting stained, and apply a layer of moisturizer or sunscreen to create a barrier against the colours.

Hairstyle: Don’t leave your hair open at all. Hair can get damaged due to colours. Try covering your head with headbands, bandanas, or scarves. This will also give a playful look and prevent hair damage. Create hairstyles that will be easy for you to manage.

Waterproof Makeup: Holi isn’t complete without playing with water, so try to adopt a water-based waterproof makeup formula. To prevent water from spoiling your makeup, it’s important to wear waterproof makeup. Waterproof mascara, eyeliner, and long-wearing lipsticks are essential for maintaining your makeup look throughout the festivities.

Minimal Jewelry: Keep your jewellery minimal and lightweight to avoid discomfort or damage during Holi celebrations. Opt for statement earrings or stackable bracelets that add a touch of sparkle without weighing you down.
