JAIPUR: Rajasthan Animal Husbandry Minister Lalchand Kataria on Monday reviewed the status of lumpy skin disease spreading among cattle in western Rajasthan with the departmental high officials at Pant Krishi Bhawan, Jaipur.
He directed the officers to ensure the availability of essential medicines for the prevention and treatment of the disease and to allocate a budget for purchasing medicines in emergency situations.
Lumpy skin disease has been spreading in the Western Rajasthan districts where lumps spread over the animal’s body. No vaccine is available in the market for this. According to doctors, if the disease spreads in the throat of the animal, it dies.
Kataria informed that recently this disease has been seen in many states including Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Karnataka, Kerala, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. He directed the officers to make adequate availability of medicines and allocate a budget for procurement of medicines in emergency situations.
In the affected districts where there is a shortage of veterinary personnel, instructions were given to make proper arrangements for treatment by forming medical teams from nearby districts. Officers are instructed at the Directorate level to visit the affected areas and take effective action.
“In the last few months, this infectious disease is spreading rapidly in cows and buffaloes in Jaisalmer, Jalore, Barmer, Pali, Jodhpur and Bikaner districts. Animals also keep moving from one state to another, due to which this disease is spreading from one state to another. This disease is spreading when animals infected with this disease come in contact with other healthy animals,” said Kataria.
Livestock owners are urged to tie the infected animals separately to save other healthy animals
The meeting was attended by Government Secretary PC Kishan, Deputy Secretary Government Kashmi Kaur and senior departmental officers were present.
