BPSC ruled out a state-wide re-test for the 70th CCE Prelims

NEW DELHI: The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has ruled out a statewide re-examination for the 70th Combined Competitive Preliminary Examination (CCE Prelims), citing insufficient evidence to justify such a decision.

BPSC Exam Controller Rajesh Kumar clarified on Saturday that decisions regarding re-tests or cancellations are based on reports from district officers and concrete evidence, not on what he called “baseless, unfounded, misleading” allegations or public protests.

“As far as the question of conducting re-examination…it is clarified that neither any report has been made available before the commission by any district officer nor any evidence/proof has been received from other sources on the basis of which a decision can be taken,” Kumar said.

He further stated that apart from the Bapu Examination Complex in Patna, where irregularities were reported, there was no reason to conduct a re-test at the other 911 test centres across the state.

The commission’s decision comes in the wake of week-long protests by aspirants demanding a statewide re-exam, alleging irregularities, including a paper leak. The protests escalated after Bihar Police used lathi-charge on demonstrators earlier this week. Several political leaders and educators have since expressed solidarity with the protesters.

On Friday, YouTuber Motiur Rahman Khan, popularly known as Guru Rahman, was chased away by protesters. PTI reported that Khan Sir faced similar treatment when he attempted to address the crowd.

“We will not allow anybody, including Khan Sir or Guru Rahman, to use our stir for their own gains,” one protester told reporters.

The BPSC said the disturbances at the Bapu Examination Complex were caused by “unruly elements” who disrupted the exam by tearing OMR sheets and spreading false information about its cancellation.

Following the incident, the commission sought a detailed report from the district administration. The report revealed that envelopes containing exam materials were snatched and taken to other rooms and outside the centre.

In response, the commission announced, “Keeping in mind the interests of the hardworking young candidates of Bihar, the full bench of the commission decided to re-conduct the examination of Bapu Examination Complex Centre.”
