Dhirendra Shastri’s brother booked for threatening Dalit bride’s father with gun

Bageshwar Dham Peethadhishwar Dhirendra Shastri`s brother Shaligram Garg has been booked for allegedly using abusive language, brandishing a gun, and threatening the father of a Dalit girl during a wedding function in Madhya Pradesh`s Chhatarpur. An FIR has been lodged at Bamitha police station against Sourav alias Shaligram Garg, the younger brother of Shastri.

In a video that has gone viral, he was seen brandishing a gun, smoking a cigarette, and using abusive language against the family members of the bride. A Facebook user shared the video and alleged that Dhirendra Krishna Shastri’s brother reached there and started fighting.

After investigation, a case has been registered against the accused Sourav under the SC-ST Act and other criminal sections, Khajuraho SDOP Manmohan Baghel has confirmed.

The FIR has been filed on behalf of Bamitha police station in-charge Parasharam Dabar, who was on a tour of the area on 20 February to verify the events of the video.

According to the Bamitha police station, the aggrieved father said that his daughter was getting married to a resident of Aktoha village on the night of 11 February. During the marriage ceremony at around 12 o’clock in the night, Shaligram Garg came to the tent and started to abuse the family members. He asked them to stop playing music. After that, he started to threaten the guests present there with a katta (pistol) in his hand while smoking.

He started pushing and shoving guests present at the ceremony. As per the complainant, he damaged chairs and threatened to kill the bride’s father if he didn’t listen to him.

The father of the bride said that they did not report the matter earlier as they were scared. The police took suo moto cognizance of the event and first verified the content in the video before filing the FIR.
