In a See-Saw battle ABVP surges ahead in JNU elections, counting underway

In a surprising turn of events, candidates of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) are leading in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) election after the counting of 2645 ballots. The counting process is still underway, and final results are anticipated by this evening. Amidst a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the elections witnessed a keenly contested battle between the United Left alliance, comprising the All India Students’ Association (AISA), Democratic Students Federation (DSF), Students’ Federation of India (SFI), and All India Students’ Federation (AISF), and the RSS-affiliated ABVP.
