All in a day: Delhi man kills GF, stuffs body in refrigerator, marries another woman

24-year-old kills his live-in partner, hides her body inside a fridge at his family dhaba and gets married to another woman on the same day

On Valentine’s Day, when one professes their love and respect for their loved ones, a tale of love gone horribly wrong has come to light in New Delhi.

In a case that reminds one of the gut-wrenching Shraddha Walker murder case, Sahil Gehlot allegedly killed his live-in partner Nikki Yadav and stuffed her body inside a refrigerator.

But that is not it, Gehlot went on to marry another girl, chosen by his family, the same day he committed the ghastly murder.

The body of Yadav was recovered from a refrigerator kept at a food joint run by the family of Gehlot.

Special Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav said that the Yadav had objected to Gehlot’s marriage with another girl, due to which the incident took place.

Sahil is a resident of Mirraon Village in southwest Delhi. He graduated from Galgotia College in Greater Noida with a D Pharma degree. Yadav was a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana. She pursued a Bachelor of Arts (English Honours) from the same institute.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Satish Kumar said that after schooling, Gehlot started preparation for the SSC exams at the Career Point Coaching Centre at Uttam Nagar in January 2018. According to him, the deceased Nikki was also studying for the medical entrance exam at the Akash Institute in Uttam Nagar at the time.

Sohail Gehlot and Nikki Yadav travelled to several places together

According to the police, Gehlot and Yadav used to take the same bus to their respective institutes on a daily basis. They became friends, fell in love and started meeting before and after the coaching classes. They also travelled to several places, like Manali, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Dehradun, etc, together.

Gehlot enrolled in D Pharma at Galgotia College in Greater Noida in February 2018, while Yadav enrolled in the same college for a BA (English Hons). Thereafter, both of them started living together in Greater Noida in a rented house.

While they returned to their respective parental homes during the lockdown, Gehlot and Yadav resumed their live-in relationship at the end of the lockdown – this time in another rented apartment in Dwarka.

The police said that Gehlot did not inform his family about his relationship with Yadav. Amid pressure from his family, Gehlot got engaged to a girl of their choice in December 2022. The marriage between the two was fixed for February 9 and 10, respectively.

Interestingly, Gehlot did not inform Yadav about his engagement or marriage plans. But somehow she came to know about this and confronted the accused.

Amid the ensuing arguments, Gehlot strangled the deceased with the help of a data cable from his mobile phone kept in his car, the police said.

Following the incident, Gehlot went to his family’s dhaba and put the body in a refrigerator in the food joint, situated on a vacant plot on the outskirts of his village.

On the day that he murdered Nikki Yadav, Sahil Gehlot went on to marry the girl that his family had chosen

Gehlot then went to his home and solemnised his marriage to a girl chosen by his family.

DCP Kumar said, “The dead body of Yadav was recovered from the fridge following the interrogation of Gehlot. A case of murder has been registered and investigation is being taken up by the Crime Branch.”

Police said the matter came to light on February 10, after they received information that Gehlot killed his girlfriend and married another girl on the day of the murder.

Police swung into action immediately and realised that no missing girl case had been reported. Despite that, police reached Mitraon village in search of Gehlot. While his mobile phone was found switched off, police could not find Gehlot at his home.

Police apprehended Gehlot from Kair village crossing in southwest Delhi after a lengthy search.
