JAMMU: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and current Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shared their views on the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, emphasizing the roles of various political parties and the INDIA alliance.
Speaking to reporters, Omar Abdullah stated that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, and other regional parties need to strategize effectively against the BJP in the February 5 polls.
“We are not directly involved in the Delhi elections. It is up to AAP, Congress, and others on the ground to determine how best to counter the BJP. AAP has won the last two Delhi assembly elections, but this time, we must wait for the people’s decision,” he said.

Farooq Abdullah highlighted that the INDIA alliance’s purpose extends beyond elections.
“The alliance is not just about electoral contests. It aims to unite the country and eliminate divisiveness. Those who think it is limited to the Lok Sabha elections should reconsider,” he remarked.

The Delhi assembly elections will be conducted in a single phase on February 5, with vote counting on February 8. The deadline for filing nominations is January 17, followed by scrutiny on January 18. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until January 20.
While Congress, which once ruled Delhi for 15 years, has faced consecutive losses and failed to secure a single seat in the last two elections, AAP secured a landslide victory in 2020 by winning 62 of 70 seats, leaving the BJP with just eight.
