NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old NEET aspirant from West Bengal took his own life in his rented residence in Kota, Rajasthan. This tragic incident represents the 28th suicide by a coaching student in Kota this year.
Faureed Hussain, a resident of Birbhum district in West Bengal, was a NEET medical entrance exam aspirant who had been attending a coaching institute in Kota for approximately a year.
Since July, he had been living in Wauf Nagar. The unfortunate incident of his suicide occurred in the rented accommodation where he lived, alongside other students from coaching institutes who shared the same residence.
Concerns about Hussain’s whereabouts escalated when he remained inside his room until 8 pm without emerging. His last sighting was in the afternoon hours of Monday. Despite attempts by friends to contact him, he did not open the door. With no response, his friends notified the landlord.

The house owner reported the case to the police, prompting a swift response from law enforcement, as indicated by Circle Inspector Rajesh Pathak of Dadabari police station. Upon arrival, the police forcibly entered the premises and discovered the young man hanging lifeless.
In a previous incident this year, a 16-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh, who was preparing for NEET, in Kota, took her own life by ingesting a toxic substance on September 18. Regarding this suicide case, Rajasthan Cabinet Minister Shanti Dhariwal remarked, “There is a need to investigate each and every case. In the case of the girl from Jharkhand who died today, it was found out that she had an affair due to which she died. She has left a letter.”
Previously, authorities in Rajasthan had opted to enhance safety measures by fitting spring-loaded fans in rooms and installing “anti-suicide nets” in balconies to make the premises resistant to suicide. In August, Kota, a central hub for students preparing for the medical exam NEET, witnessed six incidents of coaching students taking their own lives.
