IMPHAL: Security forces in Manipur have continued operations in numerous vulnerable pockets to destroy bunkers used by miscreants, securing multiple arms and ammunition, on Friday.
Search operations by the police were conducted by security forces in the fringes and vulnerable areas of Imphal West, Kakching, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kangpokpi districts in which four bunkers were destroyed in Kangpokpi District itself. Lumbong Mountain, Haraothel, Kangpokpi District.
During the operations, the police acquired a country-made 9mm Pistol with its magazine, 10 hand grenades and 17 soft gelatin sticks, which were recovered near the Haotak Phailen village in Bishnupur.
In a similar manner, the Assam Rifles have also carried out operations to recover explosives and guns. They have also recovered two 7.62mm SLRs, one M1 Assault Rifle with a magazine, one 9mm pistol with magazine, one single barrel rifle, seven improvised mortars, 15 improvised bombs, one locally made bamboo bomb, among other stockpiles were recovered at L Cannanphai village in Churachandpur district.
The movement of essential items and naka checking points have also been installed in different districts, ensuring the flow of vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37. Moreover, strict security measures have been implemented in all vulnerable locations with a security convoy being provided to ensure the free and safe movement of vehicles along sensitive stretches.
Presently, a total of 138 checkpoints have been installed, including both the hill districts and the Valley districts. The police have detained 187 persons in connection with movement violations at these checkpoints.
As of now, the ethnic strife in the northeastern state has crossed six months of its consummation with neither side taking a breather. On Friday, Manipur witnessed a fresh spate of violence with one militant dying in a bombing by Myanmar’s People’s Democratic Front.
