NEW DELHI: Three minors were apprehended for purportedly hurling stones from a madarsa at eight women heading to partake in a ‘kuan (well) poojan’ ceremony at a local temple in the Nuh district of Haryana.
The women, who were on their way to the temple, reported that stones were thrown at them from the madarsa. An FIR has been registered under various sections, including 148, 149, 323, 341, and section 3 of the SC/ST Act, at Nuh City Police Station.
However, the police later clarified that three juveniles from the madarsa were engaged in a playful act, leading to unintentional injuries to the women. The investigation revealed that the boys were tossing slippers among themselves, and it is likely that slippers or a stone inadvertently hit the women.
Nuh SP Narender Singh Bijarniya said, “On the complaint of women, an FIR has been registered. From the Madarsa, footage had come where we could see three boys standing. On that basis, three boys have been identified. All three of them have been rounded up, and now they will be presented in court.” The police also emphasised that the incident resulted in simple injuries to eight women.
Later on Friday, a peace committee meeting was promptly convened to address the situation, contributing to the restoration of normalcy in the area. The meeting involved the participation of both the groups and the local police.
A police force has also been stationed outside the madrasa as an investigation is underway. Authorities have affirmed that the situation is currently manageable.
The incident transpired several months after six individuals, comprising two home guards and a religious leader, lost their lives in communal confrontations following clashes between two communities. This ensued when a mob attacked the Vishva Hindu Parishad’s Braj Mandal Yatra on July 31.
