Elvish Yadav case: Police releases recovered snakes into forest; suspect detained

NEW DELHI:  In a recent development, concerning the snake venom case involving YouTuber Elvish Yadav, who is under investigation, the Noida Police sources have reported that nine snakes, which were confiscated from the apprehended suspect, have been set free in the forest.

The police have rehabilitated the previously recovered nine snakes, seeking permission from the Surajpur Court as per legal requirements. “Nine snakes, including a python and two-faced snakes, were recovered. We filed an application before the Surajpur Court for their rehabilitation. After receiving court permission, all nine snakes were released into the Surajpur forest,” said the Noida Police source.

The two recovered cobras are scheduled for release into the forest in the upcoming days. Initially, they were handed over to DFS officials for a medical examination. Meanwhile, Rahul, one of the suspects, has once again been placed in judicial custody following a 24-hour interrogation.

The individuals taken into custody were recognised as Rahul Chauhan (32), Teetunath (45), and Narayan (50), both sons of Harinath, and Ravinath (45), son of Chandinath. They all live in Moharband village in the Badarpur area of southeast Delhi.

The accused were apprehended following a complaint lodged by Maneka Gandhi’s NGO, People For Animals (PFA). The complaint asserted that the accused were operating under the guidance of Elvish Yadav. Yadav’s name is explicitly mentioned in the FIR. Officials from the NGO assert possession of 19 recordings and sting operations that substantiate their accusations.

The police issued a notice under Section 41 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to Yadav on Tuesday, requiring his appearance before a police officer.

In addition to the police inquiry, a veterinary department’s medical report also disclosed that the venom glands were absent in all nine snakes, and the fangs were also missing in eight of them.
