NEW DELHI: As farmers observe one year of their agitation against the three contentious farm laws on Friday, Bharatiya Kisan Union Leader Rakesh Tikait spoke exclusively to The New Indian, questioning why the government was dragging its feet in getting the Minimum Support Price (MSP) law implemented.
Tikait maintained that they have a number of other demands but there was no invitation from the Centre over initiating a discussion on them.

Tikait said the farmers’ agitation will continue until the government agrees to their other set of demands and mere repealing of the three farm laws will not solve other issues.
We have lot of demands and when the government invites us for talks, we will put them forth. So far there is no communication from the government on any meeting
The leader demanded that all the families of the farmers who died in this year long agitation need to be given compensation. Nearly 700+ farmers have allegedly died during the course of the agitation.
Tikait, who took part in a ‘Maha Dharna’ in Hyderabad yesterday, alleged that the Narendra Modi government is being run by corporates.
Meanwhile, other farmers’ unions have also remained adamant in not calling off the protest at Delhi’s border points, until the three farm laws are formally repealed in Parliament.

After an announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last Friday to repeal the three farm laws, the cabinet had on Wednesday approved the bill and also said the formality in the Parliament will soon be carried out.
Meanwhile, the security has been tightened at various border points of Delhi in anticipation of protesters gathering in large numbers.
Farmers are expected to carry out rallies in other states as well.
