KOLKATA: The ruling party of West Bengal, Trinamool Congress, has appointed Mahua Moitra, a prominent parliamentarian, as the district president of Krishnanagar.

Moitra represents the constituency in the Lok Sabha.

Moitra assumes this new role at a time when the parliamentary ethics committee has recommended her expulsion following the cash-for-query matter.

Upon receiving the new position, Moitra expressed on the X platform, “Thank you @MamataOfficial and @AITCofficial for appointing me District President of Krishnanagar (Nadia North). Will always work with the party for the people of Krishnanagar.”

The All-India Trinamool Congress, under the guidance and inspiration of Hon’ble party Chairperson Mamata Banerjee, is pleased to announce the list of new District Mother Presidents across West Bengal, with Moitra’s name for Krishnagar coming in at number 26.

On November 9, Trinamool Congress, for the first time, commented on Moitra’s Cash for query issue when TMC’s second in command, Abhishek Banerjee, stated, “Moitra is competent enough to fight her own battle.”

Banerjee, while speaking with the media, said, “There are a number of privileges due in the Ethics committee. You have seen words used by BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri during the parliament special session and how it marred the dignity of the House. There are several MPs in the BJP against whom the privileges are due and no hearing takes place there. This shows that if someone wants to fight against the Govt, against Adani’s malpractices, this is how they are expelled from being an MP.”

Banerjee questions, “the portion (of the report) I have, the Chairman of the Ethics committee has written that if there’s anything against this person, investigate. My question is how can you recommend expulsion when the matter is subject to investigation.”

Lokpal orders CBI probe against Trinamool Congress’s Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra on Nishikant Dubey’s cash-for-query complaint.

Soon after the anti-corruption body Lokpal ordered the CBI probe against Moitra on Nishikant Dubey’s complaint, Moitra asked the CBI to register an FIR on ₹13,000 crore Adani coal scam.

However, soon after the news of Moitra’s recommended expulsion from the Lower House for allegedly sharing her login credentials with a businessman living outside India surfaced, Moitra took on the X Platform, stating, “Glad to see Adani TV has a copy of the Unethical Standing Committee Report BEFORE it is placed before the Committee tomorrow. Just like Lok Pal referrals announced via the hired help Modi Adani Bhai Bhai Sabh Institutions Bye Bye.”

The 15-member ethical committee has found that the sharing of login credentials amounts to unethical conduct.
