NCP rebel Ajit Pawar visits Amit Shah for Diwali after visiting Sharad’s residence

NEW DELHI: Amid the power struggle between the Nationalist Congress Party uncle-nephew duo of Sharad and Ajit Pawar, the latter found his way to Home Minister Amit Shah’s residence in Delhi on Diwali, alongside other NCP MPs Sunil Tatkare and Prafful Patel.

Ajit was earlier seen at Senior Pawar’s residence in Mumbai for a family get-together on Friday morning.

Due to this visit, political discussions have arisen in the Maharashtra political circle regarding the significance of the meet, as the three rebel NCP leaders have also decided to pay a visit to Bharatiya Janata Party president, JP Nadda.

Earlier, following the family function at the Pawar residence, Sharad’s daughter and NCP MP Supriya Sule told the media that Ajit’s health was not “100 per cent”. “Ajit Pawar’s health is not 100 per cent. So Ajit Pawar will have to be careful for a few days. Pollution has increased to a great extent. The weather is very bad in Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune.”

Ajit had also confirmed his ill health, in a statement issued to the press on Tuesday in lieu of Diwali greetings, said that he had just been treated for dengue and was out of the limelight since he had to undergo “mandatory rest”. “I have got treated for dengue and underwent mandatory rest. I am recovering at a slow pace and will take more days to recover fully.” He added, “Every year I meet all of you during Diwali. It is an occasion to get together and share good wishes. However, I won’t be able to meet you all for the next few days as per the advice of the doctors. Yet, I carry with me, all the good wishes of yours.”

Interestingly, prior to the Pawars congregating at the family residence, Sharad’s faction had accused Ajit’s rebels of presenting false affidavits in front of the Election Commission to claim the name and symbol of the party for themselves. Sharad’s front had urged the commission to take action against them for “falsifying evidence”.

Sule, however, indicated a ceasefire, stating, “We don’t hold any grudge against anyone in a personal capacity.”
