NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday carried out searches at multiple locations in Jammu and Kashmir in connection with its probe into the Lucknow Al-Qaeda case.
An NIA spokesperson here said that the agency carried out searches at five locations in Shopian and Budgam districts of Kashmir.
The agency official refused to share the names of the persons whose premises were raided by the anti-terror probe agency sleuths.
The official said that the agency got large number of incriminating documents and digital devices have been seized.
The searches in the valley comes two days after the agency arrested human right activist Khurram Parvez in connection with a fresh case.
The Thursday searches, meanwhile were in connection with Umar Halmandi, an Al-Qaeda operative, who along with other accused persons, had been radicalising and recruiting vulnerable persons for AQIS (Al-Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent) and trying to raise Ansaar Gajwatul Hind (AGH) to carry out terrorist acts for which they had already arranged arms and explosive substances.
The Uttar Pradesh Police ATS had registered a case on July 11 this year and the NIA took over the probe on July 29 this year.
Meanwhile, the NIA also carried out searches in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol on the premises of a suspect in connection with the IED blast in Lanji forest area of Jharkhand West Singhbhum district.
The official said that the agency had seized a mobile phone, hand written diary and other suspected materials from the premises of the suspect.
The case pertains to an IED blast which had taken place on March 4 this year in the Lanji Forest Hill Area resulting in the death of three personnel of Jharkhand Jaguar (STF) and grievous injuries to others.
NIA had taken over the probe from the Jharkhand Police and also filed charge sheet against 19 accused.
