NEW DELHI : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) mounted a robust protest outside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in response to the arrest of senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Singh on Friday.
The demonstration witnessed an astounding turnout of AAP members vocally criticising the Narendra Modi government and the BJP. Throughout the protest, party supporters chanted slogans such as ‘Jab-jab Modi darta hai, ED aage karta hai’ (Whenever Modi is scared, he brings out the ED) and “Modi’s dictatorship won’t work…stop the murder of democracy”.
AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP and National Organisation Secretary, Dr. Sandeep Pathak, voiced his concerns, stating, “When the AAP raised its voice against the Modi government and Adani, they pushed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) forward to suppress it”.
He further asserted, “The BJP’s agenda seems aimed at undermining the Indian Constitution. All government agencies, including the ED and the CBI, seem to be operating under the Modi government.”
Delhi government Minister and State President, Gopal Rai, targeted the Modi government over the current issue of rising unemployment in the country. He remarked, “Currently, unemployment in the country has reached its peak. The Modi government, instead of generating employment opportunities, is more focused on incarcerating opposition leaders.”
During the protest, AAP leaders deemed Sanjay Singh’s arrest as unlawful and unconstitutional. They also maintained that the ED and CBI are working under the BJP’s influence.
AAP MLA and State Vice President, Dilip Pandey, emphasised, “Sanjay Singh has been unlawfully arrested by the BJP. The arrest of Singh by the Modi government is an assassination of democracy and the constitution”.
In the midst of this protest, AAP’s MLA and State Vice President, Jarnail Singh, asserted, “We are here to protest against the arbitrary arrest of Sanjay Singh. Peaceful protest is our constitutional right.” Nevertheless, their peaceful protest was met with a significant police presence.
Sanjay Singh was arrested on October 4th by the Enforcement Directorate in Liquor policy scam. This happened after they searched his Delhi residence . He’s the third AAP leader to be arrested in this case.
