LUCKNOW: In another twist ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh on Wednesday met former Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav here indicating at an alliance.

The meeting between the two leaders lasted for about 30 minutes and comes a day after Akhilesh Yadav also held meetings with the Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chaudhary.

After meeting Akhilesh Yadav, Sanjay Singh, who is also the party’s in-charge for Uttar Pradesh, tweeted a picture of both of them and said:

To free Uttar Pradesh from the misrule of the BJP, held a fruitful meeting with the Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadavji and had discussions on several issues. Thanks to him

Besides Singh, AAP leader Dilip Pandey also attended the meeting with Yadav.

The meeting of the two leaders had given indications of a possible alliance between the two parties in the state.

According to party sources, AAP is keen on contesting the assembly elections in UP in alliance with the Samajwadi Party. The party source said that the AAP wants to contest on at least 15-20 seats in the districts bordering Delhi.

However, no party leader has spoken openly on the possible alliance of the two parties.

The Samajwadi Party had earlier made it clear that it will not forge any alliance with any big parties in the state and would rather work with the small parties to defeat the ruling BJP in the state.

The Samajwadi Party had forged an alliance with the Congress ahead of 2017 assembly polls. However, the ruling Samajwadi Party lost miserably to the BJP as it stormed into power by winning 313 out of the 403 assembly seats.

All the parties are trying their best to regain their lost ground in the state ahead of the crucial assembly elections scheduled early next year.

The BJP is not leaving any stone unturned to ensure its victory.

To take on the BJP, Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday announced that once his party comes to power in the state it will provide an amount of Rs 25 lakh to the families of the farmers who died during the farmers protest while protesting against the three farm laws.
