NEW DELHI: As she prepares to resume her journey as a parliamentarian in the Rajya Sabha, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has taken a jibe at the BJP government while hoping for the country’s “democratic” spirit to be kept alive in the new parliament building.
“While reminiscing on our time in the old parliament, I remember instances of how the government passed the contentious farm laws during widespread protests, how MPs were suspended during parliamentary sessions, and other instances which should not happen in a mature democracy,” Chaturvedi said in conversation with The New Indian on Monday.
However, she also took a moment to remember the many pleasant experiences and encounters she had been privy to in the Central Hall of the old parliament, which has now been named Samvidan Bhawan.
“I met so many people, made so many friends in the Central Hall, irrespective of our political party or allegiance, because our goal was the same — desh ko aagey badhana hai (to take the country forward),” she said.
Like Chaturvedi, many parliamentarians have expressed great hope in the Special Session inside the premises of the hallowed grounds of the new parliament.
According to a notice sent by law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, the new parliament is set to witness its maiden historic debate on the Women’s Reservation Bill on Tuesday.
