New Delhi: The Union Road Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari attended the Aadhar Infra Confluence organised by the Panchjanya magazine on September 13 in Delhi. Speaking at the event, Gadkari caught everyone’s attention by laying down the roadmap for an ambitious Kashmir-Kanyakumari expressway project. He explained how Kashmir to Kanyakumari is no more a political jumla, but a reality.
The New Indian team was present at the venue, keeping an eye on every statement. While taking a jibe at former politicians ‘parroting’ the Kashmir to Kanyakumari slogan just for the sake of it, the cabinet minister said, “Everyone used to repeat Kashmir to Kanyakumari like parrots, for the first time, I feel happy to share that Manali to Rohtang pass journey has been reduced from 3.5 hours to just nine minutes through Atal tunnel.”

Nitin Gadkari spoke about the development in the union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and how he is spearheading a drastic infrastructure revolution across the country.
“We are making five more tunnels, one will stretch from Ladakh to Zojila, right beneath Kargil, it will be Asia’s longest tunnel,” he added. “From Srinagar to Jammu we are making 18 tunnels, 14 have been completed already, rest will be completed by year end,” he announced proudly.
The cabinet minister continued connecting dots as he then said, “Then we reach the Katra-Delhi road. From Katra, we will reach Delhi via Amritsar. The Delhi-Mumbai expressway will take us to Surat, and then a new greenfield highway will stretch from Surat to Nasik, followed by Nasik to Ahmednagar, Ahmednagar to Solapur, and Solapur to Kurnool.”

“From Kurnool onwards, we will build road till Trivandrum, Kochi, Kanyakumari, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Hyderabad, we will cover the whole of south India. Delhi to Chennai distance will be reduced by 312 km. What started from Rohtang Pass in Manali, there will be an express highway from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, one can go non-stop at a speed of 115-120 kmph.”
The venue thundered with applause as the minister concluded his statement by saying, “For the first time I felt that earlier it was just a political statement, but now we are actually connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari. One doesn’t even need to cross Mumbai and Pune to reach southern India, this route will reduce 300 km distance as well.”
