NEW DELHI: Opposition’s calls for annihilating Sanatana Dharma manifests the frustration and jealousy stemming out of the INDIA bloc’s inability to match up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi growing popularity ahead of the 2024 general elections, a senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu said.

Speaking exclusively to The New Indian, state BJP co-incharge PS Reddy also hailed Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai as “hero” for driving the party to popularity in face of rampant corruption under the DMK government.

“INDIA is a divided house. It is a sign of disturbed mind, frustration and jealousy emerging from the growing popularity of PM Modi which is causing these comments,” Reddy said.

Tamil Nadu BJP vice president Narayan Thirupathy accused chief minister MK Stalin and his minister Udhayanidhi Stalin of stirring up anti-Hindu sentiments to consolidate minority votes.

“DMK leaders including the CM, his son, and other ministers have created a bad narrative to divert people’s attention,” said Thirupathy.

“They are trying to woo the minorities by abusing Sanatana and Hindus. We are not communal, we are for all religions” he added.

Last week, Stalin Jr compared Sanatana Dharma with diseases like malaria, dengue, and coronavirus. “You can’t oppose certain things, you need to eradicate them. You can’t oppose malaria, dengue, and coronavirus, they need to be uprooted. Likewise, merely opposing Sanatana Dharma is not enough, it needs to be eradicated,” he had said, alleging that the ancient way of Hindu life promotes discrimination.

Thirupathy, however, described Sanatana Dharma as “eternal way of life”. “How can they be allowed to hurt the sentiments of crores of people who follow Sanatana Dharma? They are using nasty words. We can also use such words for the DMK, but it is not in our culture.”

The leader said that the DMK’s misrule has turned the tide in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu. “The DMK is for corruption, by corruption, and of corruption. Unlike the DMK and Congress, nobody in our party is on bail or in jail,” they told reporters at a press conference in Delhi.

Reddy said: “The DMK is speaking against the country because they are worried by Annamalai’s padyatra campaign ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’. He is driving change in Tamil Nadu. He is seen as a hero and a savior who will change Tamil Nadu politics. People want change.”
