NEW DELHI: India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant on Friday shared the four principles that India has worked on during its presidency of the summit while also belting out the priorities that the summit will have for future coordination.

While holding the pre-summit press briefing for G20, Kant shared key priorities — battling recession, women-led development and gender equality, sustainable development goals (SDGS) and climate finance.

“Firstly, at a time when one-third of the world is facing a recession we should drive bold sustainable strong and inclusive growth. When India took over the G 20 presidency in Bali, we were in the midst of a scenario of slowing growth and productivity worldwide. As we started the world was in the midst of slowing growth.

The pandemic had pushed a vast number of people below the poverty line, there was a debt crisis, climate crisis. India felt that we should start our presidency with the theme of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’-the world is one family. PM Modi said India’s presidency should be inclusive, decisive, ambitious and action-oriented. We’ve lived up to his vision of being inclusive, ambitious, action-oriented and very decisive during our presidency,” said Kant.

Kant sought G20’s focus on accelerating sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Kant said, “Accelerated sustainable development goals (SDGs) is the need of the hour because only 12 out of the 169 SDGs are on track. We are way behind and that’s why we have accelerated sustainable goals.”

“We want the world to take the lead on green development in the context of climate action and climate finance,” he added.

Kant also shared the New Delhi declaration that will be signed post the Summit.

“The New Delhi leaders’ declaration that you will see post the Summit, you will see it as a Voice of Global South and the developing countries. No document in the world would have such a strong voice for the Global South and the developing countries…,” said Kant.
