NEW DELHI: Amidst the ongoing tussle between the Centre and the AAP government over G20 Summit preparations, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has said that workers of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been working tirelessly to improve cleanliness and beautify popular spots in the city.

In an exclusive interview with The New Indian, Oberoi said that her civic administration is committed to make the G20 event a memorable experience for foreign dignitaries.

“Our MCD workers are on the frontline, deployed for cleaning all the roads where the movement of all the delegation will occur”, she declared.

From iconic historical sites to tourist hotspots, a sweeping beautification initiative is in full swing, complete with ingenious recycling of waste materials. Shelly noted that MCD employees, be it in sanitation, horticulture, or public health departments, have wholeheartedly embraced their roles, making the G20 event their top priority.

She said that the AAP government’s campaign ‘Ab Delhi Hogi Saaf’, envisioned by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, specifically focused on areas near Pragati Maidan, the venue of the G20 gathering, and other important tourist hotpots. Delhi government ministers, MLAs, councilors, the Mayor herself have inspected the beautification and cleanliness work.

Mayor Oberoi reveals that over the past month, they’ve diligently identified and rejuvenated more than 11,000 potential problem areas prone to garbage accumulation. The MCD has been repurposing waste materials, making them useful for the city’s beautification efforts.
