ODISHA/DELHI: Several babies born in Odisha’s Kendrapara district shortly after India’s Moon mission reached the surface of the Earth’s natural satellite have been named ‘Chandrayaan’.
Three boys and a girl, who were born in the Kendrapara district hospital here on Wednesday were given their names – Chandrayaan.
Ranu, a resident of Aripada village who gave birth to a son, is among the new mothers to have followed the naming ceremony.While keeping Chandrayaan as a natural choice, she, however, added that she was also offered “Chandra” or “Luna” as other options by her kin.
“We will take a final decision on the 21st day puja,” the mother smiled.
According to Odisha traditions, new-born kids are named on the 21st day of a month after a puja. Durga Mandal of Talachua village, Joshnyarani Bal of Nilakanthapur and Bebina Sethi of Angulei village also delivered babies on Wednesday evening.
While Durga’s baby is a girl, the two others are boys, who are being named Chandrayaan. In the past, a baby boy was named Khazanchi after his mother had delivered him while standing in a queue outside a bank during demonitesation in 2016. The boy’s early expenditure and school admission expenses were taken care of by Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav, who was then a chief minister.
Earlier, a Pakistani Hindu family, that had taken shelter in Delhi amid atrocities back home, had named their daughter Nagarikta, in a show of solidarity with the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
