India’s success shows such stellar achievements are in well within the grasp of the countries of the Global South
NEW DELHI: As billions of Indians erupted in joy watching Chandrayaan-3 landing on moon, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the success of the South Asia giant, which has emerged as a leader of the Global South, belongs to the entire humanity.
Joining ISRO scientists from South Africa’s Johannesburg, PM Modi hailed the achievement as a momentous stride towards unraveling the mysteries of the universe and promoting global collaboration in space exploration.
“This success belongs to all of humanity. It will not only pave the way for future moon missions but also serve as a beacon of hope for countries across the globe, particularly those from the Global South, proving that remarkable feats are well within our grasp,” he said.

He emphasized that the successful endeavor by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) challenges conventional narratives about lunar exploration and positions India as a prominent contributor to advancing human knowledge.
The prime minister conveyed a broader perspective, underlining that India’s achievements extend beyond national boundaries. “Our moon mission is not confined to India alone. As we take the lead in the field of space exploration, our ethos of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ resonates worldwide. This year, as India holds the G20 presidency, our approach is capturing global attention,” Modi asserted.

PM Modi also appreciated the relentless dedication of scientists who played a pivotal role in the triumph. “This accomplishment is a source of immense pride for our 1.4 billion citizens. I extend my heartiest congratulations to each scientist who diligently contributed to making this mission a success.”

Drawing a poetic analogy, Modi reflected on the journey of human curiosity and endeavor. “There was a time when the moon seemed distant to us. Today’s achievement signifies a paradigm shift. A time will come when children will casually say that the moon is but a short trip away,” he envisioned.
India has achieved a unique feat of landing on the south pole of the moon and entered the elite club of countries who have a presence on the lunar surface: the US, erstwhile Soviet Union and China.
“What we once envisioned on Earth, we have now realized on the moon,” Modi observed.
Chandrayaan-3, guided by ISRO’s innovation and commitment, successfully executed its landing at 6:03 pm, about a minute before the predetermined time.
