GREATER NOIDA: Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday took part in the All-India Tree Plantation Campaign organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs by planting the 4 croreth tree at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Group Center in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. This initiative aims to contribute to environmental conservation.
In addition, Shah inaugurated 15 newly constructed buildings across eight different campuses of the CRPF. These constructions, totaling Rs. 165 crores in cost, include 220 family accommodations at 102 Rapid Task Force, a 50-bed hospital in Group Center Raipur, an administrative building, quarter guard, and parade ground at Recruit Training Center Jodhpur, a 240-men barrack in Group Center Raipur, as well as hospitals, gyms, mess facilities, sewage treatment plants, and canteens in various locations.
The Union home secretary and director generals of various security forces including CRPF, CISF, NSG, NDRF, ITBP, SSB, BSF, and Assam Rifles were also present on the occasion.
During his address, HM Shah emphasized the significance of the day for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). He recalled that three years ago, a commitment was made to plant 5 crore trees by December 2023, and he expressed confidence in achieving this goal. Shah acknowledged the dedicated efforts of CAPF personnel and their families who embraced the challenge of nurturing the trees and caring for them.
Shah noted that with the planting of the 40 millionth sapling, specifically a Peepal tree, the contribution of CAPFs in making the environment greener will be a lasting memory. He stated that the campaign not only showcases the CAPFs’ commitment to conservation but also their bravery.
Highlighting the ongoing campaign’s achievements, Shah informed that 4 crore saplings have already been planted, and the target of 1 crore 50 lakh saplings for this year is in progress. The aspiration to plant 5 crore trees is on track, and Shah believes it will be achieved soon.
The Home Minister also commemorated the birth anniversary of Param Vir Chakra awardee Lieutenant Colonel AB Tarapore, highlighting his courageous leadership and sacrifice. Shah mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has honored Lieutenant Colonel AB Tarapore’s memory by naming an island in Andaman-Nicobar after him.
Shah likened the ‘All India Tree Plantation Campaign’ to a Mahakumbh of environmental protection, emphasizing CAPFs’ dedication to both internal security and environmental conservation. He applauded CAPFs for their unwavering commitment during natural disasters and pandemics.
Through the Vibrant Village Program, CAPFs are also ensuring public service and facilities to the first villages situated on the country’s borders. Shah emphasized that the environmental protection efforts, exemplified by the planting and nurturing of 4 crore trees, add a new dimension to CAPFs’ contributions. He anticipates that achieving the target of planting 5 crore trees by December will mark a significant global achievement in environmental conservation led by a security-related agency
